By Naomi Kosonen March 23rd, 2025   Statistics show that about 400 million kilograms of food go to waste yearly in the Finnish food chain.  14% of this comes from food waste from food stores and 16% from restaurants (Kuluttajaliitto, 2025).    A huge amount of the food waste in restaurants comes from the food that is prepared but does not even end up on the consumer´s plates. It is left in the food counter or kitchen because no one bought it.
